Having a shoe odor can be quite embarrassing especially when you are in public places. When you pull off your shoes and the stench that emanates from it causes people to cover their nose or spit in disgust then you have to really work on getting rid of that shoe odor.

There are various causes of shoe odor such as Bacteria growth, wearing ill-fitted shoes and socks as well as other foot related problems (Nail fungus or wounded foot).

However, there are various ways to get rid of shoe odor. Check out these four ways;

  1. Alcohol

Bacteria causes shoe odor and alcohol is very effective against bacteria. It doesn't only kill these bacteria but also removes the stench from the shoes.


Dry the shoes after which you soak them in some cleaning alcohol. Remove the shoes from the alcohol and leave them to dry properly. This will get rid of the odor and prevent it from smelling again.


  1. Vinegar and Water

Vinegar also prevents the growth of bacteria that causes shoe odor. Using vinegar and water will help you get rid of shoe odor.


Take one cup of vinegar and add water in a bowl. Mix the vinegar properly with the water and soak your shoes in the mixture. Once the shoes are soaked, pick them out and dry them. This will prevent the growth of bacteria.


  1. Black Tea Bags

Black tea bags are also very effective when trying to get rid of shoe odor. It contains 'tannins' which kill odor-causing bacteria. The smell of the tea leaves will also absorb the stench from the shoe.


Dry out four tea bags and place the dried tea bags inside the shoes. Leave them overnight and take them out the next morning. This will help to get rid of the shoe odor.


  1. Onions

Onions aren't only good for cooking, they also help to get rid of shoe odor by absorbing the odor.


Cut 2 to 3 onions and place the pieces inside the shoes. Leave it for few hours in order to remove the odor.
